There are three procedures to create an OLE DB connection to an Excel spreadsheet. ArcGIS can retrieve data from Microsoft Excel 5.0, 7.0, 97, 2000, 2003, or 2007 files. So far it has been tested with SQLite 2.8.17 and SQLite 3.32.3 on Windows (> NT/2000) in MS Excel 97. In order to use that functionality as a desktop database I wrapped the SQLite library into an ODBC driver. SQLite ODBC Driver : The SQLite Database Engine provides a lightweight C library to access database files using a large subset of SQL92 without the overhead of RDBMS server processes.

Well, it works fine with MS Access, I can connect to the file and see all tables that I've created inside.Firstly, you must install the MySQL Connector/ODBC software. Step 1: Install MySQL Connector/ODBCAdministrative Tools -> Data Sources (ODBC) -> Choose User DSN -> Choose either 'Excel Files' or 'MS Access Database' from the list -> Press 'Configure' -> finally choose the file (MS Access or Excel) as ODBC source. You can check your Excel install by going to File > Account and clicking About Excel. In my case, I have a 64-bit system but 32-bit Excel so I actually needed the 32-bit driver. It is important to match the architecture of the driver with the architecture of your Excel install. You can download the driver here.
If you are given the option of opening the 32-bit or 64-bit window, open the one that matches the driver you installed and your Excel install. Open the ODBC Data Sources Administrator by searching for it in the start menu. Close all programs in use (mind that Excel is closed too).With MySQL Connector/ODBC installed, you need to configure the data source in Windows so we can use it in Excel.
